Breeds:Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Notes:Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue, originally founded in 1999 and incorporated in Florida in 2001, grew out of the need to rescue Cavalier King Charles Spaniels who are being kept in inhumane conditions for the sole purpose of breeding to supply puppies to pet stores. We are comprised entirely of volunteers who assist in the rescue, transportation, and placement of these gentle dogs throughout the United States and Canada. We also actively strive to educate the public about the horror of puppy mills and the health issues so often present in purebred puppies purchased from pet stores instead of from reputable breeders. We are all familiar with the puppies in pet stores. Most of these puppies are sold to these stores through wholesalers who purchase their "stock" from people who mass-produce many different breeds of puppies for profit. Our mission is to rescue the "breeder Cavaliers," many who have spent their lives in filthy cages and other Cavaliers needing our assistance. We strive to give them a happy, healthy retirement life where they can enjoy the love of a family and companionship. This also helps to limit the chances of more Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies ending up in pet stores or on internet puppy selling websites. Our first "rescue" from such a sale was a female named Classic Star. After her purchase at an auction in Oklahoma a young boy came up to pet the dog. He asked what her name was and upon hearing the name Classic Star he said he thought her name should be "Lucky" because she was Lucky that we bought her! We loved the name and it stuck with both the doggie, Lucky, who lived with a wonderful family in Missouri for many years, and with this organization. Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue has since rescued over 1,800 Cavaliers. We became incorporated on January 6, 2000, and in 2001 were granted the IRS status of a nonprofit charitable organization - 501(C)(3). Our mission is to rescue and protect the breed which we all so dearly love.
