Hale Cat Guardian™

The Hale Security Pet Door® Cat Guardian™ (patent pending) is the "purrfect" complement to a high quality Hale Pet Door™. This innovative design uses LED sensors and receptors and animal behavior in connection with a highly effective audible alarm to keep your indoor cats safely inside while allowing your dogs the freedom to come and go as they please. This novel design does not depend on magnets, collars, or shock so there is no harm to any of the animals. This unit can also serve the dual purpose of keeping unwanted neighborhood animals or wild animals such as racoons safely outside your home.

The unit is designed to be powered with the included AC adapter for convenience. We can also provide an optional 9-volt battery backup for short-term use in case of power failures or in emergency situations. Due to short battery life, we do not recommend full-time use of the battery pack by itself. A lighted green LED easily displays whether the unit is on or off. The alarm comes with an on/off switch for training purposes or if you would like to temporarily deactivate the unit for any reason. Additionally there is a switch to allow for either no delay or a one second delay before the alarm sounds. This would normally be left set to no delay but should the alarm start to sound before the dog is through the door, you may wish to change to a one second delay. HOW IT WORKS:

When a cat tries to exit the pet door or a wild animal tries to enter the pet door, they approach the door in a different manner than a dog that has been trained to use the door. A cat or other untrained animal will generally poke around cautiously and only press against one bottom corner of the pet door flap. When this happens, the bottom sensor beam is broken and a siren activates. This loud alarm in an enclosed area near the animal's ear level will deter the animal and they will avoid the area of the pet door. On the other hand, when a dog enters or exits the pet door, they generally go through the middle of the door at a higher level. Thus the top sensor beam is also broken. This deactivates the unit and the siren does not sound allowing your dog free passage through the pet door. PLEASE NOTE: If you have a cat that is allowed outside access and you wish to keep wild animals outside, be advised that the Cat Guardian cannot distinguish between a cat and a wild animal. Therefore, it would not be suitable for your purposes. However, Hale Security Products are currently in development that would work for this situation. Please check our website for updates.

The Cat Guardian securely attaches to the frame of the pet door and is virtually invisible from the exterior. It can be ordered either factory installed with a new pet door or can be retrofitted to most Hale Pet Doors. The frame depth of the door or wall model must be at least 1 3/8" thick to allow the Cat Guardian to recess snugly into the pet door frame and not interfere with the movement of the pet door flaps. It may also work on other Hale Pet Door models depending on the style of the pet door and the frame width. Please call our customer service department at 800-210-9716 for questions about whether it will work with your pet door. When ordering a Cat Guardian unit to complement your pet door, we would need to know the handing you require. To determine this you would look at your pet door (or its planned location) from the inside of the house and decide if it will be plugged in to the left or the right of the pet door. Additionally if you are purchasing a Cat Guardian for a wall model to deter unwanted outdoor animals, we would need to know whether you plan to plug the unit into an interior or exterior outlet. NOTE: Due to the size of the Cat Guardian unit and the dimensions of the pet door flaps and frame, this unit is not compatible with a " SMALL" size Hale Pet Door and we do not recommend its use with a "SMALL MEDIUM" size pet door. As an additional option, Cat Guardian units used in our wall model pet doors or in our enhanced Cat Guardian Plus product can be outfitted with a larger alarm which produces a louder siren to be even more effective against more assertive animals.

IMPORTANT NOTE: TRAINING AND CONDITIONING YOUR ANIMALS IS VITAL TO SUCCESSFUL USE OF THE CAT GUARDIAN!! Please read the information on conditioning your animals to use the pet door. This will help ensure a successful implementation of the Cat Guardian unit into your home.

The Cat Guardian comes with all screws and drill bits needed for quick and easy installation. As an added bonus, it can also be attached to the Hale Pet Door Security Barrier™ or the Hale Security Dog House and Barrier™ to deter unwanted animals before they even reach your pet door.

The Cat Guardian is covered under our warranty with regard to being free of defects in workmanship, materials, and installation if the unit is factory installed for up to one year. We cannot be held liable if the customer installs the unit incorrectly during a retrofit installation or if the animals are not properly conditioned.
