Featured Rescue Rewards Partner: German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County

German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County (GSROC) is a non-profit 501c(3) charity organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing purebred German Shepherd Dogs that have no where else to turn. Dog are helped from Southern California, including not only Orange County, but San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, the Greater Los Angeles area and more.

They are an all volunteer organization with no paid staff. GSROC is funded entirely by private donations and receive no government support. Dogs for adoption are housed in foster home situations and in private boarding facilities. Currently, they do not own a kennel facility.  “But our dream is to have one some day so that we can eliminate the tremendous expense associated with boarding the dogs while they wait for their forever families,” their website states.

Approximately 50 percent of the dogs that they rescue come to them directly from owners who are no longer able to care for them for one reason or another. The number one reason that they receive dogs is “moving” with the number two reason of “No time for” as a close second. Dogs also come to them when owners become ill or hospitalized, when owners pass away, when families lose their homes or lifestyles change. The other 50 percent of the dogs in their care are plucked from public animal shelters throughout Southern California when no owner comes to claim them or when they are no longer wanted.

“We race to save as many of these dogs into our care as we can, however limited space and resources constantly make our task difficult,” says the GSROC website.

GSROC is one of many purebred groups among Hale’s Rescue Rewards partners.  As their website states: “Despite recent spay/neuter efforts, pet overpopulation continues to cost 6-8 million companion dogs and cats their lives every year.  Of this figure, more than 25% are purebred animals.  We believe that by focusing on the niche that we know best—German Shepherd Dogs—and by placing the dogs in suitable, lifelong homes, we can significantly reduce the number of animal lives that are lost in our immediate area.  We hope to build on the success that we achieve and one day expand our safety net to include shepherds in other areas as well.”

Percy, a dog available for adoption at German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County, a Hale Pet Door Rescue Rewards PartnerSay ‘Hello’ to Percy

Percy was found wandering the streets of Orange County. A kind animal lover took him in and worked with her local shelter to try and find his owner. Unfortunately, no owner was found. GSROC agreed to take this boy in and help him find a new home. He is very sweet natured and eager to please. He likes to stay very close to your side to demonstrate how much he wants someone to love.  He walks nicely on a leash, loves car rides and enjoys spending time quietly in his crate.  He is very social and likes to play with other dogs.  If you are interested in meeting Percy, please contact GSROC at info@gsroc.org.
